The return the Blue Jays is excellent news for the league, which will now count on five solid teams to provide fun and excitement for a legion of fans.

The OJMSL gets a new commissioner

Ami Wise was selected unanimously and by default as the new commissioner of the OJMSL.

Wise's nomination comes following the retirement of Zach Schowalter, who decided to focus on his game.

The Gargoyles 3rd baseman is planning to come back strong, after a difficult year spent mostly on the disabled list.

THE JMSL

Softball, and occasionally baseball, has been a pick-up or organized league sport within the Ottawa Jewish community since the early 1900s. The strength of the sport depended on the suitable age categories for players and the available sponsors.

Active periods include the 1950s with Minute Car Wash, I.G.A. (Independent Grocers Association), Budget Motor Sales and Koffman’s as sponsors; the mid 1970s with sponsors Cohen & Cohen, Nepean Motors, Yankel’s, Jewish Community Centre, B’nai B’rith and M. Levinson Salvage as sponsors; late 1980s with sponsors Minto Construction, Shores, Rivers, Cohen & Cohen, Regional Realty, Bakermet, Golden Palace & Fines Flowers, Mastercraft, Melting Pot, Ottawa Athletic Club, Pollack Personnel, Ron Engineering and Levinson-Viner.

The League has evolved over the year to welcome players from all horizons and is still alive today with four teams competing hard for all the glory.
